ROBERT BALZER, Executive Director

Mr. Balzer, 56, was the Group Publisher and CEO of the San Bernardino Sun, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin and Redlands Daily Fact s in June 2004. In this role, Bob oversaw 10 City News weekly publications, the 210 magazine and various other niche products. In addition, Balzer serves as one of four executive directors of the California Independent Postal Systems management board. This is the largest private carrier household delivery company in the nation, which is owned jointly by MediaNews Group and the Los Angeles Times. In June of 1999, he was named Vice President of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group and Publisher of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. Bob has been with the parent company, MediaNews Group for ten years and was previously Vice President of Advertising and Marketing for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group. He also worked for three years with Gannett, previous owner of the San Bernardino Sun, seventeen years with the Los Angeles Times and eight years with the two predecessors of the Daily Bulletin. Balzer is serving on the board of directors of the Children’s Fund, National Orange Show, Cal State San Bernardino College of Education steering committee, the Pomona Valley Medical Center Foundation, P.A.L. Foundation, Casa Colina Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation, the Inland Empire Transportation Coalition and the California Newspaper Publishers Association. Following a 38-year newspaper career, in 2007, Balzer has taken the responsibility of the Executive Director of Cal Poly Pomona’s first capital campaign since its establishment sixty-four years ago. In this position, he works with the eight colleges under the University banner in raising awareness and funds to enable the institution to fulfill the educational needs for the foreseeable future. Both Bob and his wife of 34 years, Debora, grew up in the San Bernardino County are. They have homes in Rancho Cucamonga and Lake Arrowhead. Their daughter, Ashley, 20, attends Chaffey College. |
